The Arts & Culture Advisory Committee presented to City Commission on March 30th, highlighting accomplishments from 2025 and anticipated developments for city arts and culture work in the coming year. Key updates included:
The presentation spotlighted the Trailhead’s anticipated fall opening. The City Cultural Trailhead is a renovated building that will offer public restrooms, a community gathering space, a rentable multipurpose room, accessible gardens, and a front porch overlooking Lake Superior.
The committee also noted that Arts & Culture has secured over $2 million in outside funding for the Cultural Trail and Trailhead, representing strong national recognition for Marquette’s innovative approach to place-based storytelling and civic infrastructure. That funding was leveraged by the current city investment in an arts and culture staff, the partnership framework of the cultural trail, and the public art policy and fund.
The committee closed with a formal recommendation that City Commissioners approve funding to update the 2014 Arts & Culture Master Plan calling it “essential for continued grant eligibility, partnership-building, and guiding the next chapter of the office’s work”.
